Subject: Sprint Strategy Analysis

Below you will find the strategy analysis on Sprint Nextel for the 2009-2010 fiscal period. No longer atop of the mobile market Sprint Nextel is now implementing new technology and advertising ideas to target Gen Y and secure a moderately dominate place within the mobile market.

Profile
Sprint Nextel, a multi-billion dollar corporation, offers a comprehensive range of wireless and wire line communications services bringing the freedom of mobility to consumers, businesses and government users (Sprint.com). Originally founded in 1898
by Cleyson Leroy Brown and Carlos Florendo, Jr, Sprint was landline Telephone Company. In 2005 with the purchase of Nextel by Sprint Corporation Sprint Nextel was created.

Sprint Nextel currently the third largest wireless telecommunication network. Sprint Nextel hasn’t been doing so well as of late. Losing an estimated 135,000 customer and has managed to lose over 1.6 billion dollars in revenue.

Competitive Landscape
For a period of over ten years or so Sprint was one of the innovate leaders in the mobile market, but as of late they have seen their market share decrease little by little. Sprint Nextel has a market share of 18% and by 2014 could see that number dwindle down to 7.4%. Verizon the overall leader has a market share of 31.9% and could see that number increase to over 36% by 2014. AT&T is in second with 29.5% and an estimated 33.3% by 2014.
Sprint Nextel’s Strategy
To once again become a relevant force in the mobile market, Sprint Nextel is looking towards new technological improvements not yet being accessed within the market. Sprint Nextel is the first wireless telecommunication network to run on a 4G network. With this innovation Sprint Nextel hopes to bring in new customers who prefer a speedy mobile internet service.
Gen-Y Implications
As a whole Gen-Y is always on the move, and they like to have access to mobile web at all times. With the addition of a 4G network Sprint Nextel can guarantee a faster more reliable coverage compared to others. I see this being a good advantage for Sprint Nextel in the eyes of Gen-Y.
